If you have ever experienced water gathering in your home, you know the importance of having a sump pump. A sump pump is a pump that sits in the basement of your home in a sump basin.
As the basin collects water, the pump removes the water to outside the home. There are several ways that water can gather in your basement; a foundation below the water table, rain causing the home’s perimeter drains to fail, or a pipe bursts in your home.
Sump pumps should be backed up by battery because of the possibility of a power outage. There are two basic types of sump pumps, pedestal and submersible.
Pedestal pumps have the motor mounted above the sump and usually last longer. Submersible pumps have the motor installed inside the pump and typically need to be replaced more frequently.
Expert Sump Pump Installation
The first step to installing a new sump pump is to identify the location where water gathers in your basement. This location needs to be near a GFCI type electrical outlet.
If the area where water gathers does not have a GFCI outlet nearby, you will need to have one installed.
A hole must be dug for the sump basin and all appropriate plumbing must be installed to safely pump the water that gathers in the basin up and out of the home.
